Tales of Derring-Do in 17th Century France

By Way of an Introduction

OK here goes again with an attempt at a blog of my modelling and wargaming activities, such as they are. The previous attemt Life's a Botch lasted a couple of years but was never porperly exploited, and fell victim in the end to my ecentric mental health.

The enigmatic title reflects that the blog is going to be single- rather than multi-subject, covering only my ideas for gaming in the mid 17th Century, mainly in France, mainly based on the excellent fantasy-histrical novels of Pierre Pavel (of which and whom more later) which inroduce the Cardinal's Blades (elite Cardinal's Guards) and dragons, with added flavour from the Dumas and Sabatini classics, especially The Three Musketeers.

This is, of course, the classic Swashbuckle Era and as such ideally suited to the rules written under the 'brand' 'Tales of Derring-Do!' (TODD) by my collegues Ian Colwill, Chris Swan, with some help from me. TODD are one-to-one skirmish rules designed for small fights between individual characters (again, more later).

I will be starting by plunging straight in, in my usual warthog manner, with my current thinking on figures and a plan for a staged plan for tackling  as I find setting things out in this way helps clarify my thinking. Plans are like pie crusts, of course, made to be broken, and there will no doubt be major deviations from them as I progress.

As an aside I am at the moment in the middle of reorganising my workbench corner to make things easier for me to work in the same area on modelling and converting and painting - and to encourage me to keep it clear not cluttered!

Going to be playing about with the fonts for the blog but can't get the changes to stick yet -will keep trying. Meantime am posting just to get a strating point up...
